Luke Raffin

A full time artist of more than twenty years, Luke Raffin has gained the respect of art collectors throughout North America.  Using egg tempura & acrylic, Raffin unites the strengths of each medium with dramatic use of light to create images of depth, detail & mood.

Born in Northern Italy in 1955, Raffin emigrated with his family to Powell River, on Canada's rugged West Coast, in 1967.  The natural beauty of the West Coast incited Raffin's initial interest in wildlife art and, subsequently, his attendance at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto several years later.

While birds of prey are the artist's first passion, Raffin has expanded his artistic portfolio to encompass North American wildlife ranging from blue birds and eagles to cougars and raccoons.  Recent years have seen an increase in emphasis on the scenery surrounding his subjects.  For Raffin, the choice of subject matter is secondary to the method used to create the artwork;  "It doesn't matter what I paint, but how I paint it!"

According to this talented artist, his greatest motivation in creating an image is the opportunity to make each piece better than the last.  There is not a single goal that Raffin would like to achieve through his art, but rather a series of small achievements which he continuously creates to maintain a challenge in his career.
